atheists, how do you know that pterodactyls really arnt the dragons of old?

How do you know that dragons and stuff really just arnt pterodactyls? Think about it, who told you it was a pterodactyl? And were you alive “millions” of years ago?
So there is just as much evidence of pterodactyls being the pagan dragons of old then there are of them just being a type of dinosaur.
