A computer game with dinosaurs from about 1996-1998.?

When I was in about sixth grade my moms boyfriend had this computer game with dinosaurs. It was pretty cool, you were on a mission to save them i think. You had to go to different towns and get stuff then go back and use it. I remember that one of the narrators was a pterodactyl. Does anyone have any ideas?
another one i played: the man character was male w/ blond hair. he carried a satchel. the graphic were cartoon. I remember a scene where he was backstage.
